Internal Tooth Bleaching

Often after a root canal, the dentist will place a dental crown on the affected tooth. This crown adds an extra layer of protection, restores your tooth to its natural color and allows it to blend in with your smile. If you do not have a crown placed, over time the affected tooth will become discolored and may eventually turn grey. This is a normal side effect of a root canal and our dentists will be happy to see you for an appointment for internal tooth bleaching in Sherman Oaks, California.

During a root canal treatment, bacteria can still enter the pulp chamber. As the bacteria breaks down, your tooth can become discolored from the inside – a problem that cannot be addressed with traditional teeth whitening treatments.

The doctor will carefully clean the tooth and apply an anesthetic to ensure that you are comfortable during your treatment. The doctor will then access the pulp chamber and remove any decayed tooth material before placing a bleaching agent that includes hydrogen peroxide. On average, the bleaching agent will be left in your tooth for three days before it is removed by the doctor and your tooth is re-sealed.
